Mission Overview

The Long March 10B lifted off at 12:15 PM Beijing time (0415 UTC) from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site in Wenchang, southern China’s Hainan Province. The rocket successfully deployed an undisclosed satellite into its preset orbit.

Approximately six minutes after the first and second stages separated, the first stage began its return journey - undergoing coasting, attitude adjustment, powered braking, and aerodynamic deceleration - before being vertically captured by the net system aboard the recovery vessel “Navigator” (领航者), as is shown in Figure 2.

Both the launch and recovery were confirmed as a complete success.

Rocket Specifications

The Long March 10B is a reusable liquid-fueled commercial launch vehicle developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). From unofficial info sources, Key specifications include:

The Net Recovery System

Unlike the conventional landing-leg recovery method used by most reusable rockets worldwide (such as SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Blue Origin’s New Glenn), the Long March 10B employs a sea-based net recovery system, reducing the need for complex landing leg structures on the rocket itself.

What’s the black smokes?

We clearly see some black smokes coming out of the top of the first stage during the recovery process. My personal guess, out of chemical knowledge, is that: it came out of incomplete combustion of the residue kerosene fuel; it should be already considered and covered in the designing and manufacture process (controlled leakage maybe), as it didn’t lead to uncontrolled consequences, such as explosion.

Significance

This mission represents multiple historic firsts:

• China’s first successful controlled recovery of a carrier rocket’s first stage
• The world’s first successful net-system recovery of a launch vehicle

The net recovery approach offers several advantages over traditional landing-leg systems: it simplifies onboard structure, reduces rocket weight, increases payload capacity, and demonstrates strong adaptability to landing deviations by effectively “enlarging” the capture window through coordinated net operations.

I searched it online, and saw some discussions; one possible trigger of this problem might be the Windows Font Cache Service. Somehow it was messed up, and I have to manually restart it in services.msc.

So I tried it, and it works afterwards.

Solution

After analyzing the error log (with DeepSeek), I got to know that:

• In my environment (LuaLaTeX + unicode-math), \vec is a math accent command corresponding to \Umathaccent;
• If I directly use it after _ without any decoration, the parser cannot determine the boundary of the parameters;
• So I have to use a pair of {} to enclose the \vec command, like \psi_{\vec{k}}.

I actually don’t exactly know what are these about, but the solution is clear. After using {}s, it passed the rendering.

Tests in KaTeX on This Page

So if I use the unchanged formula directly in KaTeX on this page, it will only present a red version of the source code; I assume it’s a sign of the same issue, but without any explicit compilation errors, since it’s only rendered on loading.

A Wrong One: gpedit

In gpedit.msc, go to Computer Config -> Managing Templates -> Control Panel -> Locale and Language Options, then disable Allowing user to enable online speech recognition service.

After rebooting, it didn’t go away when I press Ctrl+Win+S.

Theory

In VA LCD screens, liquid cryscal molecules are aligned vertical to the surface, as suggested in the name; brightness of pixels can be changed by changing the tiltness of molecules, which is done by applying different voltages of electric fields to the molecules. This results in a very high contrast ratio, thanks to its low residual retardation in the field-off state.

To increase response speed, manufacturers tend to “overdrive”(OD) by applying higher voltages. However, this solution results in another defect that molecules will turn more than desired angle, resulting in smears when displayed images are changed rapidly.

Solution

An official support article of Huawei points out that it’s generally best to set image > OD to Level 2 to reduce this effect. It’s indeed better after adjusting it from 4 to 2.

Fortunately it’s possible to directly add an extension from offline .crx files. Go to this setting page, select “Always Prompt for Install” to enable this feature.

Then I found this extension, which, upon installing and turning on, enabled installing extensions from the store.

Installation

It seems that Obsidian manages extensions by workspaces. After opening my site folder in Obsidian, I clicked on the settings button, installed and enabled the plugin.

After installing, I was able to view and edit .qmd files in a WYSIWYG style in Obsidian.

Notes on Editing

There are some differences between directly editing in VSCode tho.

Metadata Block ---

I can directly type --- in the start of the .md file to add metadata. However, when I first try to add categories, it didn’t show what I wanted: the desired format in plain text is

However, in default behavior, I found that it is in text mode (instead of list mode) and it shows something like

Solution

Checking this link, I have to install a plugin called yt-dlp-ChromeCookieUnlock. According to the wiki of yt-dlp, I have to put the package such as [path to yt-dlp.exe]/yt-dlp-plugins/[package name]/yt_dlp_plugins.
